Our Caregiver of the Year Awards

Caregivers are the unsung heroes of family care. Whether a partner, sibling, child or friend, we personally understand the day-to-day challenges this responsibility requires. At Carewell, our mission is to support the 53 million informal caregivers nationwide: telling their stories, empowering them through education, and supporting them in difficult times.

Therefore, to celebrate the commitment and sacrifices you (or the caregiver you love) have made, our annual Caregiver of the Year is opening for nominations and awarding a cash prize of $5,000 to one outstanding caregiver.

Eligibility

To be considered for the 2022 Caregiver of the Year Award, nominees must have served as an unpaid caregiver for another person between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021. Responsibilities of this nominee should include at least one of the following: personal care duties, housekeeping, transportation, and general health of their care recipients.  Nominated caregivers must not currently work at or be affiliated with employees or agents of Carewell or with our participating judges.

Deadline

The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, January 14th, 2022. Winner will be announced on Tuesday, February 8th, 2022.

Criteria

A winner will be selected based on their ability to provide unique and specific stories of how the nominee went above and beyond to support their care recipient.

2021’s Caregiver of the Year

Patti H., a 911 dispatcher, has been a caregiver to her 85-year-old mother for five years. In 2016, Patti began supporting her mother after she suffered physical injuries as a result of a series of falls and began losing her eyesight due to wet macular degeneration. A couple of years later, Patti welcomed her brother into her home and became his primary caregiver after he became bedridden and completely blind. “I am so glad I am able to help my mom and my brother,” said Patti in her submission. “I admit, sometimes it is overwhelming, but I just keep reminding myself that someday they may not be around, and, although I will be very sad, I want to feel I did what I could to help them.”

Who can apply?

Anyone who was a primary caregiver between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021 is eligible to apply. We define a primary caregiver as an individual who is responsible for performing personal care duties, housekeeping, transportation, and overseeing general health of their care recipients.

I would like to nominate a former caregiver, is that possible?

Absolutely. While a caregiver may no longer have a [primary] caregiving role, due to relocation or even the death of their care recipient, we would like to recognize their caregiving work. To be considered for the 2022 Caregiver of the Year Award, the nominee must have served as a caregiver at some point between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021. If you are nominating a former caregiver, please make note of that in your submission.

Yes! Feel free to nominate as many caregivers as you like; however please complete separate forms for each nominee.

When is the deadline to submit?

All nominations must be submitted by Friday, January 14th, 2022 at 11:59pm EST.

Will my story or responses be shared publicly?

Yes. At Carewell, we are dedicated to amplifying the voices of hard-working caregivers nationwide. As a part of our new awards program, we will share stories from our first place winner in a press release, a blog post on our website, and across our social media channels.
