T.E.D.™ Anti-Embolism Stockings, Knee High, 2X-Large / Long, White, Inspection Toe

T.E.D.™ Knee-High Anti-Embolism Stockings by Cardinal Health are clinically proven compression stockings designed to reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and thromboembolic disease in hospitalized, surgical, and limited-mobility patients. Applying a clinically proven graduated compression pattern — 18 mmHg at the ankle decreasing progressively toward the knee — these stockings increase venous blood flow velocity and reduce venous distension to help prevent the conditions that lead to clot formation. When used alongside mechanical or pharmaceutical DVT prophylaxis, T.E.D.™ stockings have been shown to improve patient outcomes, and they also provide essential baseline protection during periods when intermittent pneumatic compression devices are temporarily interrupted. The inspection toe design with a blue toe color code allows healthcare providers to quickly assess skin condition and pedal pulse without removing the stocking, supporting efficient ongoing monitoring. This 2X-Large / Long stocking is designed for patients with a calf circumference of 20 to 23 inches, and the standard compression, knee-high format is appropriate for acute care and continuing care settings.

Key Benefits & Features

  • Improves Outcomes as Part of DVT Prophylaxis: Anti-embolism stockings improve patient outcomes when used in combination with mechanical devices such as sequential compression devices (SCDs) or pharmaceutical prophylaxis such as anticoagulants, providing a multi-modal approach to DVT prevention.
  • Clinically Proven Graduated Compression: The pressure pattern — 18 mmHg at the ankle, 14 mmHg at the calf, and progressively lower toward the knee — is clinically proven across multiple physician-reviewed studies to increase venous blood flow velocity, reduce venous distension, and lower the risk of DVT.
  • Baseline DVT Protection During Compression Interruptions: Provides continuous baseline protection against venous stasis when intermittent pneumatic compression is interrupted — such as during patient transport, procedures, or device removal — helping maintain uninterrupted coverage throughout care.
  • Inspection Toe with Blue Toe Color Code: The open inspection toe allows clinicians to quickly assess the toes, monitor skin color, check capillary refill, and evaluate pedal pulse without removing the stocking. The blue toe color code provides easy visual identification of this stocking variant at a glance.
  • Inlay Circumferential Knit Construction: Maintains the correct pressure pattern at each anatomical zone and helps prevent stocking slippage during wear, supporting consistent therapeutic compression throughout the day.
  • Contoured Seamless Design: Eliminates ridges and harsh seams that could cause constriction or skin irritation, promoting a more comfortable fit for extended wear in acute and continuing care settings.
  • 2X-Large / Long Sizing: Fits patients with a calf circumference of 20 to 23 inches and a leg length less than 18 inches, accommodating patients who require larger sizing for correct compression pattern delivery.

Who Should Be Using This?

T.E.D.™ Anti-Embolism Stockings are intended for adult patients at risk of thromboembolic disease due to surgery, hospitalization, bed rest, or limited mobility. This 2X-Large / Long size is appropriate for patients with a calf circumference of 20 to 23 inches. These stockings should be used under the guidance of a healthcare provider as part of a comprehensive DVT prevention protocol.

How Do You Use or Apply This Product?

Measure the calf circumference at its widest point and the distance from the bend of the knee to the bottom of the heel to confirm correct sizing. Turn the stocking inside out to the heel, place the foot inside, and gently pull the stocking up the leg, smoothing out any wrinkles or folds. Ensure the heel pocket is correctly positioned and the top band sits just below the knee without rolling or constricting. The inspection toe allows skin and pulse monitoring at any time without removing the stocking. Inspect the skin and circulation regularly as directed by a healthcare provider.
