Our Story

“Family is at the heart of what we do”

CEO Bianca and COO Jonathan pictured standing with grandmother and family dog.

Our story began in 2015, when our co-founder and CEO Bianca helped her mom care for her grandmother.

Bianca was shocked there was no “What to Expect” guide like there is for new parents, so she and her husband/co-founder Jonathan dedicated their lives to creating a solution for family caregivers just like you.

Abena's Calcium alginate dressing with silver is made of natural fibers derived from seaweed. It is designed to be highly absorbent and form a gel like covering over the wound to help maintain a moist environment that promotes wound healing. The gel like surface also helps keep the dressing from adhering to the wound, which aids to minimize discomfort upon removal. The most fascinating aspect about this dressing is that it can restrain bacteria growth and help reduce infection. This highly conformable and flexible dressing supports a variety of uses on moderate to heavily exuding wounds.

  • Primary dressing.
  • Non-adhesive.
  • For deep wounds.
  • Semi occlusive.
  • Wear up to seven days.
  • Silver particles: While being in the form of encapsulated metallic silver, they are very stable and will not be oxidized even on exposure to light.
  • Natural calcium alginate fibers: In combination with its high wet strength, the fibers create a protective gel when in contact with exudate to allow for easy removal in one piece.
  • Indications: Moderate to heavily exuding wounds, pressure ulcer, diabetic ulcer, surface trauma wound, venous/arterial leg ulcer, graft and donor site, cavity wound, post surgical wounds.
  • Contraindications: People with known sensitivity to silver, not intended for use on third-degree burns, wounds being treated with enzymatic debridement, do not use on dry wounds.
  • Sterile.
  • Latex-free.
