About MEDIHONEY Square Hydrocolloid Dressing

MEDIHONEY Square Honeycolloid Dressings are absorbent wound dressings made of Active Leptospermum Honey in combination with a hydrocolloidal gelling agent for the management of wounds and burns. As wound exudate is absorbed, the dressing – which has a low pH and high osmolarity forms a gel. This assists in maintaining a moist environment for optimal wound healing, aids in autolytic debridement, and allows for non-traumatic removal.

MEDIHONEY is a medical-grade honey derived from the pollen and nectar of the Leptospermum species of plant in New Zealand and Australia. It is unique among all types of honey in that it maintains its effectiveness even in the presence of wound fluid.

Key Benefits & Features

  • MEDIHONEY Square Hydrocolloid Dressing can be used for wound bed preparation and through all phases of wound healing.
  • These hydrocolloid dressings demonstrated efficacy from the onset of a wound through to closure.
  • Cleanses and debrides due to its high osmolarity.
  • Helps to lower the wound pH for an optimal wound healing environment.
  • Not made with natural rubber latex.

Who should be using this product?

  • Diabetic foot ulcers.

  • 1st and 2nd-degree partial thickness burns.
  • Donor sites, traumatic and surgical wounds.

How do you use or apply this product?

Directions for Use for MEDIHONEY® Honeycolloid™ Non-Adhesive Dressing:

1. Prior to the application, cleanse the wound area as necessary.  There may be increased levels of exudate upon initial use of the dressing. In the case of increased levels of exudate, protect the peri-wound skin with a skin protectant barrier and add an absorptive cover dressing.

2. Use an appropriately sized MEDIHONEY® Honeycolloid™ Non-Adhesive Dressing. The dressing may be cut (with sterile scissors) to fit within the wound margins. The dressing may be more conformable to the wound if pre-warmed to room temperature prior to use.

3. For deep wounds, place the dressing within the wound bed and ensure that the dressing does not overlap the wound margins. 4. Use an appropriate secondary dressing (such as hydrocolloid, foam, thin film, island/composite, or conforming gauze bandage) to cover the MEDIHONEY® Honeycolloid™ Non-Adhesive Dressing and additional absorbent dressing (if one is required). See package inserts of secondary cover dressings for complete instructions for use.
