Stay away from these food and drinks!

Any person living with urinary incontinence should consider avoiding these foods and drinks:

  • Carbonated beverages
  • Caffeinated beverages
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Orange, lemons, and other citric fruits
  • Cranberries
  • Tomatoes
  • Spices (think crushed red pepper among other things)
  • Sugar
  • Condiments such as soy sauce, ketchup, and honey mustard
  • Milk and other dairy products
  • Artificial sweeteners

All of the foods and drinks listed above can upset the stomach or bladder, thus causing bowel incontinence or bladder control issues.

Instead, try to include these helpful foods and drinks in your diet to lessen the effects of your bowel or urinary incontinence:  

  • Grains (for the fiber)
  • Vegetables
  • Nuts, seeds, and legumes
  • Non-acidic fruits
  • Breads, cereals, and rice
  • Water

All of the foods and drinks listed above can soothe the stomach or bladder, thus reducing the effects of bladder control issues. Also, make sure to use the best incontinence products available depending on your incontinence type.
